the curious incident of the dog in the night-time

Update : 21 May 2012

The performance of this play on Thursday, 6 September 2012, will be filmed as a National Theatre Live event. This means that the play can be seen in movie theatres in select cities in various countries around the world at a later date. The National Theatre has done this for recent plays such as “Frankenstein”, “One Man Two Guvnors” and “Collaborators”. Fans of the play, or Nicola, who are unable to travel to London to watch the play live, but is lucky enough to be in one of the cities where there is a participating cinema will be able to watch the play on screen.

Keep checking back on this National Theatre webpage for details of which cities will have a participating cinema for this event. We are now properly excited for Nicola!!!

Update : 31 May 2012

The National Theatre announced today that the play is now extended until 27 October 2012. However, the play will not be on every day. According to its June to November 2012 brochure, here are the extended dates :

28.9 | 29.9* CAP |
1.10 | 2.10 | 3.10* CAP | 4.10
10.10 | 11.10* | 12.10 | 13.10*
15.12
24.10 | 25.10* | 26.10 | 27.10*#

* means a Matinee performance is available on that day
# means it is an audio described performance for for blind and visually impaired people.
CAP means its a STAGETEXT® captioned performance for Deaf and hard of hearing people.

For the audio described matinee performances on 8 September and 27 October, “touch tours” are also available and they start at 12:45 pm. This is a facility provided by the National Theatre for visually impaired patrons who get to touch part of the set or move around the stage a little before the actual performance. The NT believes that this is a massive help for many audience members in helping them immerse themselves in the imaginary world presented on stage. For more information about these “touch tours”, visit the National Theatre’s website HERE.

Tickets for the additional shows go on sale on 8 June 2012 for NT members on the higher tiers.

Update : 6 June 2012

Thanks to @flip18, we know that the Broadway cinema in Nottingham has started advertising for the live telecast of the 6 September 2012 performance of this play. Apparently, it will also be repeated on 8 June 2012. Details can be found HERE.

Go to the NT Live webpage to check if there is a cinema near where you live which will also be joining in the live telecast on 6 September 2012.

Update : 17 June 2012

From Google Alerts come this piece in the Independent. The most interesting comment in this article is that David Heyman, the producer behind all seven (or eight, if you’re going to be pedantic) Harry Potter movies, is developing a film adaptation of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Previously, Ron Howard’s production company, Imagine, had the rights to develop a film adaptation, but after 9 years, they couldn’t seem to be able to come up with a script. Its good news that a British producer is now involved. Here’s hoping that Mr Heyman will consider using Nicola in his film adaptation. We believe its time Nicola gave the big screen another try.

Update : 22 June 2012

In addition to the Broadway cinema in Nottingham, Ritzy Brixton and Exeter Picturehouse are two more cinemas which have announced ticket sales for the play broadcast as a NY Live event. If you live in a city which has a cinema which is part of the NT Live group, you should make arrangements to book tickets now.

Go to the NT Live webpage to check if there is a cinema near where you live which will also be joining in the live telecast on 6 September 2012.

Update : 4 July 2012

The National Theatre has released photos of the cast taken during rehearsals. You can either see the photos on NT Live’s Facebook page, or on the NT’s own website. Nicola appears in three of these photos – she’s all by herself in one of these pics, looking lovely in a butterflies t-shirt. 😀
