Jonathan Creek

From Wikipedia –

Jonathan Creek is a British mystery series produced by the BBC and written by David Renwick. Primarily a crime drama, the show is also peppered with broadly comic touches and featured comic characters and sub-plots which lent a lot of humour to the series.

It stars Alan Davies as the title character, who works as a creative consultant to a magician while also solving seemingly supernatural mysteries through his talent for logical deduction and knowledge of illusionism. The series ran semi-regularly from 1997 to 2004, airing four series and two Christmas specials, initially co-starring Caroline Quentin as Creek’s collaborator, writer Maddie Magellan. After Quentin’s departure in 2001, Julia Sawalha joined the cast as new character Carla Borrego, a theatrical agent turned television presenter. Following a five-year hiatus, the series returned for a one-off special on 1 January 2009, “The Grinning Man”, which featured Sheridan Smith as another paranormal investigator with whom Creek joins forces. A further 90-minute special “The Judas Tree”, was filmed in October 2009 and broadcast on 4 April 2010.

Nicola was the guest star in the last episode of series 2, titled “Mother Redcap”. She played a policewoman who was part of the team investigating the death of a judge who was given 24/7 police protection. There was a “will they/won’t they” romantic theme running between Jonathan and Maddie throughout series 1 and 2. So when Jonathan took a shine to Nicola’s character, Maddie was most unhappy. “Mother Redcap” refers to the derelict inn which formed part of a sub-plot in this episode. Maddie investigated mysterious deaths which took place at the inn but these were not connected with the death of the judge. Nicola gave a wonderful performance in this episode, part comedy and part drama.
