Note : Although this webpage claims to have available a clip showing the cast in rehearsals, the actual clip is that of another play, not Cloud Nine.

Set in colonial Africa and modern-day Britain, Caryl Churchill’s landmark play Cloud Nine is about relationships – between women and men, men and men, women and women. It is about sex, work, mothers, Africa, power, children, grandmothers, politics, money, Queen Victoria and sex. By all accounts, this must have been a fun play, for both the actors and the audience. Each actor was required to play two roles. Nicola played a young man in Act One but was transformed into a granny in Act Two. The script also required her to sing, badly.

These photos have been taken from the Gallery available on the Almeida webpage for this play.

Try and make it to this screening, if you can. Nicola plays two different roles in this play. She also sings, badly, as per the play’s requirements.

Thank you, Lisa, for the heads up.
