Set in colonial Africa and modern-day Britain, Caryl Churchill’s landmark play Cloud Nine is about relationships – between women and men, men and men, women and women. It is about sex, work, mothers, Africa, power, children, grandmothers, politics, money, Queen Victoria and sex. By all accounts, this must have been a fun play, for both the actors and the audience. Each actor was required to play two roles. Nicola played a young man in Act One but was transformed into a granny in Act Two. The script also required her to sing, badly.

James Fleet, a cast member, also appeared with Nicola in Milner [TV], Cows [TV] and Four Weddings and a Funeral [Film].
Tobias Menzies, a cast member, also appeared as Andrew Lawrence, the Home Secretary in episodes 807 and 808 of Spooks [TV] but he did not have any scenes with Nicola in those episodes.
Jo Scanlan, a cast member, also appeared in Heading Out with Nicola.
Thea Sharrock, the director, also directed Nicola in Mrs. Klein [Stage].
