Filming Locations
There has been a lot of reports on Twitter about the show being filmed in and around Bury and at Chadderton.
From Ruth (@theOofOof), we have this report about the old Barclays Bank on Silver Street, Bury which is used as the exterior of the police station where Scott & Bailey report for work.
The building, on the corner of Silver St and Bank St, is Grade II listed and was built for Bury Banking Company around 1836. It has always been a bank although some of it’s upper floors were used as council offices a few years back. It became Barclays in 1969 and remained so until the bank moved to it’s current location at the new ‘The Rock’ development in 2010. The building has remained vacant from then and is currently up for sale.
On the photos you will notice the railings and the front door are black, not ‘police blue’ as they appear in the series. They are repainted black every time filming finishes (my Dad actually saw this happen the other day). Other changes that occur while filming are they hang an old fashioned police lantern in the doorway and put a police station sign up.
In the show the police station is supposed to be in the town of Oldham which in reality is 11 miles (20 minutes) from Bury. The building’s actual address is 26 Silver Street, Bury BL9 0DJ and it can be found on Google Street View.
Ruth has also spotted Nicola filming one episode in and around Whitefield Park, Whitefield. Here’s Ruth’s Report, from Manchester.

when I saw Nicola’s portrayal of Helen in ‘ scott and bailey ‘, I was very moved by her character. Her acting draws you in like only a rare few performers can. I am definitely hooked on the prospect of seeing her on the ‘big ‘ or ‘ small’ screen from now on.
It was last week when I saw the episode of Scott & Baley where Helen Bartlett died. I felt even the next day awfully sad about her life and death, although she never existed. And that was due to Nicola’s superb acting!
This series of Scott and Bailey just ended tonight in the States. I have to say, I had never before heard of Nicola; however, her portrayal of the doomed Helen Bartlett was as good as acting gets. I am so pleased to find out that she has already been recognized. I think if she is not nominated, at least, for this portrayal (in the BAFTAs?) there will be a real injustice committed. She was brilliant, and heartbreaking, in this series. What an amazing performance.
For Australian viewers: Scott & Bailey season 3 will begin on ABC1 on Friday 6 September at 9:30pm, after Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. Not the most obvious two shows to put together, I guess start the evening light with all the pretty frocks and period detail, and then move into darker territory.
I have seen series 3 of S & B thanks to the internet but will certainly watch it again, hated Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries though
Just have to say that – i guess – along with many other people I have been aware of Nicola’s work for years. But just recently she suddenly seems to have blossomed as one our most important acting talents. Over the last few weeks we have seen her in an astonishing number of programmes and she is simply brilliant. Her performance in the episode of Scott & Bailey broadcast last night was stunning. And my wife and I thought she was wonderful in the criminally underrated and misunderstood Heading Out.
