… the hit drama series starring Derek Jacobi and Anne Reid has been receiving record ratings, making it the biggest new mid-week drama on any channel this year. The series is attracting an average consolidated audience of 7.1 million so far, with last week’s episode overnight averaging 6.2 million …

… Sally Wainwright’s scripts and the outstanding cast have unearthed an absolute gem that is captivating audiences of all ages on Tuesday nights, making it the biggest mid-week drama launch on any channel in 2012.

We have complete coverage of Series 2 HERE.

Given the way the BBC mucked about with the programme’s initial listing (removing it from their September 2012 schedule without warning, then keeping silent about when the show would air and finally airing the show without much fanfare), I would believe that the Series 2 commission came about after they saw the incredible ratings for the first few episodes.
